Choosing the right size for action sports equipment can be challenging for beginner riders, as they have yet to establish their riding preference and style. If you're a beginner skateboarder, this guide can help you select the right skateboard for you.
Rider Height: Under 104cm (3'5")
Shoe Size: Size 3 and under
Age: 5 and younger
Recommended Skateboard Width: 6.5" - 6.75"
Rider Height: 104cm (3'5") - 132cm (4'4")
Shoe Size: Size 4-6
Age: 6 to 8 years
Recommended Skateboard Width: 7.0"
Rider Height: 134cm (4'5") - 157cm (5'2")
Shoe Size: Size 7-8
Age: 9 to 12 years
Recommended Skateboard Width: 7.25"
Rider Height: 160cm (5'3") and up
Shoe Size: Size 9 and up
Age: 13 years and up
Recommended Skateboard Width: 7.5" and up
Once a skater develops more experience riding, and trying different decks, it will be easier to decide on a size. Some riders prefer slightly smaller boards, while others prefer larger. Smaller skateboards are better for more technical tricks because they're more maneuverable and flickable. Large boards are better for bowls, halfpipes, and other ramps as the larger size makes them more stable at speed.
